Chorus season 24

 Had our first rehearsal of the 24th season on Sunday.  We got a whopping 14 new members; must be a record.  The bass section got three new low basses, which we really need.  there are only three of us at present; the rest of the basses are upper.  I've also been made the bass section co-leader.  I don't think that it's a lot of work, so I accepted.  Looks like it will be a good season.  We're also in planning mode for our 25th season next year, which will include a guest artist.  Last time we did this, it was Bernadette Peters.  No one knows who the final choice will be, but we should hear by next rehearsal.
    I'm beginning piano classes again this week.  I've been wanting to for a long time, and I finally bit the bullet.  I'm going to an intermediate group class for a while, and then I plan on switching to private instruction.  Last time I took lessons must have been 25 years ago or so.  Oh my.

Yay for music! I'm an upper bass, too, but both the gay men's chorus and the barbershop chorus only have a single bass section.

Good luck on the piano! I was just thinking tonight listening to a ragtime cd that this is a skill I wish I had developed decades ago. I took one semester of piano lessons in college when I was 20, but the elderly instructor was less than gracious and complimentary about my abilities. ;-)

We only have a single bass section, too, but when the music splits the bass line, the low basses come into their own. There isn't enough music written with a good bass line IMO. We're always struggling to reach those high baritone notes that seem so common in today's music.

25 seasons, quite an accomplishment. yay for that! when do your seasons run? since season 24 is starting now, how long will that go? any guests for season 24?

Season 24 will run from Sept 2011 through June 2012. The guest artist will be at the June 2012 concert. That's the end of season 24, but I guess we're also counting it as the kickoff for season 25.
