Job Prospects

Roger's job prospects are looking up.  He's in the running for a job with the IRS as a customer service rep.  He applied (actually me) in June and took the on line test in August.  He scored in the Superior qualified group which puts him at the top of the list.   We got an email from the iRS last Friday with a bunch of forms to be filled out and faxed back.  They were all employment forms like the Direct Deposit signup and W-4, but they made sure to state that the email was not a job offer.  Apparently they want all of the forms on file before they do a telephone interview and then make a selection.  I don't think they would go through all that if they weren't actively considering him for the position.  All the forms are in now, so we'll wait for the scheduling of the "telephone assessment".

That is positive, but I got alarms when you mentioned the forms being faxed to someone! At UNM we don't have anyone fill in a W-4 or I-9 until they are hired either; those have confidential info. With the direct deposit signup, that has your banking information on it. I sure hope this isn't a scam!

UNM also doesn't have you FAX any forms to anyone; they are turned in to an HR rep at hire.

I think the IRS is trying to get ahead of the pack. They're hiring for 70 openings, and there's a lot of training involved. I believe they want to get a jump on the paperwork so that the new hires can get right to work. It's the legit IRS site, so I'm sure it's not a scam.

Good news!

What does "actually me" mean? That you actually applied for him?

That's exactly it. I did all the searching and setting up accounts at the various job search websites and all the work of uploading the resume and cover letter. He took the tests and talked to the hiring personnel.

I thought you'd appreciate this one...

This is off topic, but I thought of you when I read it!

In Through The Out Door
library | Bedford, NS, Canada | Extra Stupid
(A woman and her son have just entered the library. They walk straight to me while I am sitting at the circulation desk. There
is only one entrance to the library. All other doors leading outside are clearly and brightly marked fire exits.)

Patron: “How do I come in?”

Me: “Sorry?”

Patron: “How do I come in here?”

Me: “Through the door?”

Patron: “Which one?”

Me: “The one you just walked through.”

Patron: “Oh okay, so I just do that again?”

Me: “Yes…that should work perfectly.”

Patron: “Thanks!” *walks away*

I laughed out loud when I saw this, but it's not as far-fetched as it may sound. We get questions like that all day long, maybe not as bizarre, but very unusual.
