Back in the ER overnight with Roger. Apparently Rover's heart ablation was not completely successful. According to the doctor he now has A fib which occurs in about 20% of the SVT cases. Now we go back to the cardiologist, but for now the episodes seem to be controlled with an increase in Lopressor dosage.
The whirlwind is over. We are back from Jamestown legally married! With retirement only two weeks ago and a wedding, I am trying hard to decompress. We had 17 family members on the bus/limo and a few more who met us there. My eldest son was my best man and Roger's best friend was his. All of our family was there to support us. The ceremony was very simple, but met our needs completely. The park setting was gorgeous as was the weather. It was as good as we could have imagined. Everything went perfectly and we were back home by 10 PM. We are old-lol.
Retirement
Sep. 5th, 2013 09:02 pmI'm finishing up my first week in retirement and it's great. I noticed today that I'm feeling my body slowing down. It's hard to explain but I feel like things are more relaxed and smoother. I'm sure it's due to the stress. release of not going to work each day. The library is not a stressful place to work, but apparently there was enough so that I'm feeling the difference.
Here I am at my desk for my last day at the library. I have some bittersweet feelings about today. Working in a library has been a dream job, although a public library setting comes with challenges. An academic library would probably have been a better choice, but those jobs are scarce. I feel glad about leaving, since it will give me the time to pursue some other interests that I've put off for many years. I'm sorry to leave my coworkers, because they are such a happy bunch and always make me smile. All in all I feel good about leaving, and I'm sure I'll feel fine tomorrow. My farewell party is this evening after we close, and I'm thinking that it will be somewhat difficult, but I'm ready to go.
Almost there
Aug. 26th, 2013 07:21 pmToday begins my last week at the library. The last 17 years seem to have flown by. I'll be glad to not work anymore, but I still feel kind of sad to be leaving. On a more down notem, Kaiser rejected Roger when he appled to them for an individual policy since Ohio won't let me carry him on mine when I retire even thought he's been on my group plan for years. I'm not sure what kind of options we have, but I believe that he'll qualify for COBRA which is outrageously expensive. Hopefull, when the exchanges kick in in October, we'll be able to find something better and cheaper.
All the wedding plans seem to be solidified. Everything has been reserved, ordered, and paid for. All we have to do is get on the bus (I hope). September could be a good month.

retirement
Jun. 1st, 2013 09:33 pmLooks pretty certain that I'll be retiring from the library on September 1. I can't wait. Roger starts drawing social security this month so we'll have some additional income. I'm petitioning the bankruptcy court to reduce my payment since my income will be taking a significant hit, but I haven't heard any response yet. Still hopeful. I've lined up a part time job teaching computer skills to senior citizens for some additional income and I'll still be able to substitute at the library after a sixth month waiting period. Things are looking good.

Roger now has his Holter monitor to wear for the next month. Whenever he feels and episode of SVT coming on , he has to push a button on the monitor and call a number in Florida to transmit the data. The tech said that they weren't sure whether it would work with a cell phone so we should use our landline. We haven't had a landline for at least 7 years, and I don't know anyone who does anymore. We'll have to try the cell phone and hope it works.
back to the hospital
Nov. 12th, 2012 06:23 pmRoger spent Saturday and part of Sunday in the ER again. He called me at work on Saturday saying that he had passed out twice while sitting in a chair and that his stomach nausea was getting worse. I hurried home and got him to the ER a little after 1:00 PM. After they checked him in, the techs took some blood and ran an EKG. Everything was normal, so they took him for an xray to see if there was some sort of intestinal blockage. Negative also. The doctor came in to talk to us, and while he was there, getting ready to send Roger home, the heart rate monitor alarm went off. The doctor continued to watch the monitor and decided that Roger was spending the night with a heart monitor so that they could record what was happening. He's thinking that the nausea is being caused by the heart rate changes rather that the other way around. He called it Supraventricular Tachycardia, and it could be the cause of all of Roger's symptoms these past years.
Roger now has an appointment on Thursday to get a holter monitor to wear for 30 days, and then an appointment with the cardiologist on Friday. I'm glad that someone finally saw what was happening, because we've been telling the doctor about that for a long time, and he thought that the gastric reflux was causing the increased hear rate. I'm just happy that someone is taking a close look at the issues.

Roger just called to tell me that he's cleaning out the refrigerator. Since we didn't have any power for 49 hours, everything must go. That's sad, because I went grocery shopping on Sunday and the power went out on Monday. I'm not sure whether the stuff in the freezer is any good, so we're going to dump all of it and start over. At least it should be done by the time I get home, so that will be one less thing for me to worry about. I need to call our insurance agent to see what kind of home coverage we have. There was so much water coming down the chimney that the control unit for the gas fireplace is ruined. If that had worked we would have had some heat in the living room at least. The was only one water leak and I think that the water came down the dryer vent opening in the attic. If the rain ever stops, we can check the roof for damage. Right now I'm just glad that I have the next two days off.
